the assault on twitter continues…

Let me be clear, I’m not here to bring down Twitter. Frankly, it’s probably a matter of time before I cave in a get an account myself. And I don’t search these videos out. They find me, which tells me that there is mounting Twitter backlash brewing. I’m just sayin’… where are we headed here?

Check This Out

Interesting article from Newsweek recently titled “The End of Christian America”. Check it out HERE. Here’s a little selection:

“Two thirds of the public (68 percent) now say religion is “losing influence” in American society, while just 19 percent say religion’s influence is on the rise. The proportion of Americans who think religion “can answer all or most of today’s problems” is now at a historic low of 48 percent…”

Any thoughts?

Does Satan Exist?

I know some of you were already aware that this was happening but ABC Nightline has organized a debate where “Deepak Chopra and Bishop Carlton Pearson will face-off against Pastor Mark Driscoll of the Mars Hill Church and Annie Lobert, founder of the Christian ministry “Hookers for Jesus” about the existence of the Devil.” Incidentally, you may remember Annie from Chad’s documentary on sex-trafficking and prostitution.

You can watch the debate HERE in clips.

Lie To Me

“Lie to me like I lie to you
Calm me down until the morning comes
And if the morning don’t come
Lie to me” - Ryan Adams Magnolia Mountain

I never really watch dramas on television but I’m intrigued by the new Fox show Lie to Me. My interest was piqued by the commercials and I watched a string of episodes on Hulu the other day. If you’ve never seen it or the ads for it, the show centers on a private firm that specializes in investigating situations where someone needs to know “the truth”. The firm, and one guy in particular, is skilled at studying body language and facial ticks to determine whether someone is lying or not. It’s fascinating. It’s CSI for body language. Granted it has the formulaic crazy, loose canon, socially inappropriate genius a la House and cliche after cliche but I’ll give it some grace. It’s an interesting concept and to be honest… I just want the “powers” that this guy has. I want to be able to read body language at all times. I want to know the things that people are thinking that they don’t really say.

It’s a concept I’ve thought about a lot before: the idea that we communicate more than we think we do and that we don’t hide as much as we think we do. I firmly believe that the condition of your heart shows up, eventually, no matter how skilled you are at fooling people. I’ve watched this play out in the public arena in things such as the steroid scandal in baseball. That drama has been a case study in lying, avoiding the truth, telling half truths and how to manipulate public perception in an apology. It’s actually interesting in the show that they use real world examples to show what they’re talking about. Bill Clinton is a popular target.

So here’s the deal, I’ve decided that I just need to figure out what all of the “tells” are so I can become skilled at masking the truth and my hidden emotions. Actually, on second thought, I don’t think it’s possible. I suppose I would do better to focus on having nothing to hide. And by the way, don’t try to get anything past me now…I’m getting good.

25 Things…

Alright, I’m going to post this video because it’s actually very funny. But I am posting it with a disclaimer. Here it is: This video ends by asking the question “What do you hate?” The answer: I hate way too many inconsequential things (like the phrase “I know…right?”) That’s a problem because I can tend to have an extremely critical spirit and condemn things that aren’t really a big deal in order to feel a lot better about myself. That’s not good. It is good and right to filter everything, to judge the messages that we receive and hold trends up to the light of scripture and wisdom. But sometimes I/we cross the line into just being judgmental and arrogant. I don’t want that to be the case. We should not be people who put everything down just to elevate ourselves. That said, we can laugh about the ridiculousness around us a bit, especially when we are guilty of it ourselves. So here we go. Thanks to Lisa for the link.
